Launch Monitor Specifics

There is a common misconception that TrackMan and Foresight GCQuad measure clubhead speed at different moments in the swing — specifically, that TrackMan measures speed at maximum compression while GCQuad measures speed just before impact. This is not accurate.

In reality, both systems measure clubhead speed just prior to impact. The difference in reported clubhead speed values does not come from timing — it comes from where on the clubhead the speed is measured.

  • Foresight GCQuad measures speed at the fiducial marker on the clubface.
  • TrackMan, as a radar-based system, measures speed at the geometric center of the clubhead.

Because the clubhead is rotating through impact, different points on the clubhead are traveling at slightly different velocities. As a result, the same swing can produce different clubhead speed numbers depending on the measurement location.

Neither system is more "correct" than the other — they are simply measuring speed at different reference points.

The key takeaway: Consistency matters more than the absolute number. When tracking progress over time, always use the same launch monitor system. This ensures your data reflects real improvement rather than differences in measurement methodology.
