· auto-generatedIt's open season. This is an eight-hole birdie challenge. We've seen that the body's in good shape by testing my golf fitness handicap.
Now, we're going to see where the game is at. It's early season. We've got cold, windy day here in England, and we're going to play an eight-hole loop.
But, you're involved because every birdie that I make, we're giving away 10 annual DRVN memberships. So, get in the comments. As soon as you make those birdies, the first 10 each time is going to get the hookup for a full year of membership.
Starting out, we've got a par five, and we are downwind, so we're ready for a hot start. We've got about 530 yd to there. Again, wintry conditions.
We've got bunkers to carry. If I get a good one, no problem. We should have a nine into the green.
So, let's see where the game is at. Hey. Bit down the right.
Yeah, we'll find that for a cold swing. Got iron to the green. Let's go make a birdie.
Yeah, pretty blustery, as you can see. I mean, conditions early part of the year, we're thankful to be out. Let's put it that way.
So, I mean, we've got three, maybe four months, I think, until we play a qualifier, and the last few years, well, the last 10 years has been very sporadic in terms of playing competitions. Bad preparation, bad game. Everything's been pretty bad.
So, this year, we're going to try and get a good number of events in before we get to open qualifying, build up the mentality, build up that kind of competition form, and just try and get comfortable out on the course. And, hopefully, we'll add in some competitive YouTube matches, as well. So, hit the comments below, as well.
Tell us who you'd like to see, and who you think we could take on. Okay, second shot. Not my best.
Kind of held up into the wind off the right, but we got 230 left now. So, lie's fine. We're just going to hit a four iron.
Probably can't go straight at the flag because of the wind and the carry. So, middle of the green here, two putts for birdie, get you some memberships. That's a nice shot.
Go. Oof. It's cold, man.
That came out way short. That was quite good. Chipping up for birdie.
Huh. Yeah. Our ball's going nowhere, man.
So, like I said, pretty good shot. Right up at the front of the green. Super simple pitch shot.
Really just about strike, let it roll out, uphill. Everything's going in our favor. We just got to get the strike right, and then see if we can get that distance right, so we can tap it in.
If we make eagle, 50 memberships. See what we can do. Yeah, nice chip shot.
Got a short putt for that first giveaway. We'll put this one down. Ooh.
Birdie number one. I did set this up pretty well. We've got a good few par fives, a reachable par four.
It's also freezing cold, so to get a birdie on the board early, that's a win. And remember, hit the comments. First 10 comments are going to get that free yearly membership.
Jump in. Let's get it done. Okay, hole two.
Pretty straightaway par four, as you can see. 400 yd from this tee to there. We're going the opposite direction, so wind is pretty much straight off the left.
Got some bunkers to clear, which shouldn't be a problem if we hit the middle of the face. So, we're just going to start it left on that trap. Fade with the wind.
Should have a pretty short wedge in at this point. Get on the ground. Not ideal, but it's in play.
Ah. Didn't want to be complaining about cold the whole time, but hey, here we are. That's England, man.
It's England golf, huh? Pretty poor tee shot on that one. Into the wind.
Now over on this side, back flag, so we've got 150. Wind is into off the left, and it's cold, so we don't want to go long, but the ball is not going far right now, so little eight iron, knock it down left of the flag. Middle of the green.
If it releases up to the flag, all good, but let's get that birdie putt on hole two. Go. Go.
Go. Ooh. That's a really nice shot, but stalled in the wind, so I think we've got a long putt.
We'll see how far over the bunker it was. What we got? 35, 40-ft putt.
Let's see if we can roll one in. Go. Yeah.
I tell you what, I will play it our way today, guys. So, we're not really keeping score. We are if I keep playing like this.
But, let's try to be aggressive, make those birdies. So, yeah, birdie par start. Good stuff.
Okay, another par four. If I was feeling a little warmer, and the body was moving better, this would be drivable cuz we got 350, but we're straight downwind on this angle, so front flag. We're just going to try and get some air underneath it, try and hit a big one, as close as we can.
Oh, I get a good bounce. Go. Yeah.
Hey. Actually had a chance. I mean, didn't rip it, but it was nice and straight.
I thought it would take the camera to the fairway to the right, but it stayed straight, so short left. I might be in the trap, but we're close. All right, so we're actually way past the flag, so that's probably a 360-yd drive.
Definitely assisted, but still went, so we've now got a long bunker shot back into the wind, so one thing I can guarantee is a face full of sand. Ah. I put way too much on it.
Sand was a little heavier than we thought, so it came out a little faster, but just on the edge. We've still got a putt for birdie. Got a putt back up the hill, little bit right to left, going through the fringe.
Just going to give it a run, see if we can make another bird. Nah. That one wasn't a run, but hey.
Decent start. Another par five coming up, downwind. We should be making We should get a birdie here.
Let's go. Okay, par five, playing 512 from back here. Little bit of dogleg right to left.
Pretty much opens up to the green, so really, just hit this one high, let the wind do the work, get it way down there. I mean, some scruffy golf, low off the face, straight down the middle. Gives us a shot.
Okay, so we've got a problem. We hit the bunker. But, we're on the up slope.
We're downwind. We've got 170. So, as long as we clear the lip and get strike, there's no reason we can't begin this on the green, so I think we've got eight iron.
It's right between an eight and a nine. I want to guarantee the strike, guarantee the height to make sure we're out of the trap, and hopefully just land it up on the green. Two putts for birdie, I'll make that eagle.
>>, still right. Down. Well, Chef LaFeet on that one we got moving, but it was the nine.
We hit it too good, rolled over the back. Chipping up for birdie. So, talking about open qualifying and the mental issues we've had over time.
Last year actually was around here, which is now my home course, and we're on the range, probably the best player on the range. We came out to the course, my caddy thought I was throwing the game, but this hole was kind of prime for that, this par five, so after a sketchy start, we actually hit it up on here in two. Hit the first putt up, and then I missed the one footer for birdie.
That's kind of what we're dealing with in terms of the competition side. In terms of this shot, we got 60° wedge, lower than the level of the green. It's a standard pitch shot, probably needs to land only a yard on the green, roll down to the flag, make that second birdie for you.
Hey. Well, I actually liked how I played that, so that might roll down faster. Hey.
Nah. Struggling on that second birdie for you. >> [snorts] [sighs] >> Thought the chip shot was good.
Just didn't release out the way that we thought, so have to go again. >> [sighs] >> Okay, distance brought to you by Bushnell Golf. 143 flag.
We are down off the right. I'm just wondering how much it's going to affect the shot I'm in. I think if I cut it too much, it's going to hold up, so I think this is just a straight shot.
I think this is a wedge right now, not even a big one, just solidly struck. It's a pretty simple shot, really, just middle of the green. The wind should take you close to the flag.
We should be good to go. Go. Go.
Swing is not that good right now, but down the flag. Came up short, we got to putt. That's one thing with the game right now that is very positive is that there isn't really that much of a big miss, so I haven't struck it as I would like to today so far.
Everything's been in a nice window. We haven't been too far off line. As soon as you do that, the game's kind of a lot easier, so putting's going to need to sharpen up, but that's always the case early in the season.
Let's see if we can get that stroke going. Maybe it starts here. Okay, straight up the hill.
Little left to right. Again, just trying to give these a run, really. Not too much concern on the one coming back, so if I don't get it past the hole, make sure you hit me in the comments as well.
>> [laughter] >> Absolutely ripped it. I mean, hit the middle of the hole, but that was fast, so I mean, it didn't all didn't go all the way in, so maybe we put some put some memberships up for that one as well. Maybe the next two comments, dive in and get that one.
What's that? So, we birdied the first, three pars to follow. Par five next, although into the wind, into the sun.
It's actually a pretty difficult hole, so you know, tricky to make a birdie here. Okay, so another par five. Pretty much 500 yd at this point.
Courses in England are generally shorter, plus we're still in kind of winter conditions, so playing pretty short, but we're straight into that wind now we turn around the corner. So, I mean, this is playing long, just for I mean, it's cold, it's down it's down there, and it's around 20 mph wind, gusting up to 30, maybe 40. So, there's a cross bunk here.
It's probably only 260 out, but with this wind, that's definitely in play, so to be honest, probably shouldn't hit driver, but we're trying to make birdie, so we going. Just down the left, fade it back to the target. I can't see anything, man.
All right, this wind is brutal right now, matched with the poor ball striking. A long way in, so 250 straight into that wind again, it's pretty strong. Sheltered by the trees here, but see the flag, it is going pretty good, so got a reasonable lie.
Seems like time for drive off the deck. Oh my goodness. I mean, now that's worth coming for right there.
Little cut, we're on the green, putting for eagle. Had to clip that one. Little divot on the driver.
That was nice. All right, guys, that was the shot of the day right there, so pitched up on the green, rolled up. What we got?
Probably 25, 30 ft. This for that big birdie, no, this is for the eagle. So, again, not too much in it.
Slightly right to left. I think the wind's probably going to hit it further, so just pretty firm on the right edge. Go.
Oh, you are kidding me. That is another birdie. Make sure you hit the comments, another 10 memberships right there.
Two under on the day as well, which I know, the course is playing kind of easy, but the conditions are pretty tough, so happy with that. Two holes left, let's finish it off. So, par four, one of front tee here, it's normally a short hole anyway, but I've only got 285.
However, the wind is howling into off the left, so I mean, I normally play a cut anyway. This is not a comfortable shot, but we're being super aggressive, so we're going to try and hit driver way left, probably just the peak of that tree, cut it back, run it up on the green. Oh, is that two holes running?
That might go in. Go. Wow, man, the ball is going nowhere.
I mean, that was a chip shot with the driver. Trying to hit it under the wind, but that was perfect. I don't think it reached the front edge, but still great shot, going to another good chance.
Oh, this is It's looking easy. It's not my normal game right here, man. My swing feels tight and short.
I feel like I'm just chipping it around, but hey, I'm hitting good shots, so let's keep it going. Okay, staying aggressive. Super simple chip shot, just all about the strike.
Land it a little bit on, it's probably going to hold up pretty good, so no reason we can't hole this one. Pretty close. That's another birdie, we're going to tap it in.
That's up to 30 memberships we're giving away now, so make sure you hit them in those comments. A lot of training going on if you're going to do this, and I mean, despite the conditions, it's been some good golf. 30 memberships, hit the comments, one hole left.
This is the toughest hole yet. It's playing 450. We're actually into the wind, so it's harder than some of those par fives.
And it's into off the left. We've got bunkers down there. I've already made you three birdies, so really I'm just going to hit it, see where it goes, and hit it again.
Oh, I just ripped it. Well, we're good today. To be honest, that's the first real tee shot we've hit.
Got 167 left, so that was a pretty good tee ball into the wind now. I mean, it is super cold, and it's super windy, so this would probably normally be a nine iron. Definitely nothing more than an eight iron.
We're going to go with seven, little punch, left of the green, and just fly it right into the middle. Let's see if we can make one more birdie for y'all. Well, >> [laughter] >> that's what happens when you don't commit.
Stood over the ball thinking that 7-iron wasn't enough. And we just came up about 30-yard short, so bad shot. Whatever, let's go pitch it in.
Straight-up pitch shot, back into the wind, plenty of green, super aggressive. Ooh. Hit some shots today, man.
We'll go tap that in for a par. All right, so not sure this was the best insight into my game. I haven't been hitting it anything like as far as I normally do.
Body hasn't been moving the way that I would like to. Again, I'm going to put a lot on the conditions. It's cold, it's windy.
We actually played some great golf, so we'll finish this one off here. That's 3-under for eight holes. It was a favorable eight-hole loop.
It's nice to play some good golf, and don't forget those memberships. If you haven't commented already, make sure you do now. Hey.
3-under par, that is episode two of the Open Series. You've seen where the body's at, you've seen where the game's at. We're now going to go week on week updating the progress, increasing the swing speed, seeing where the game is at, shooting in better numbers, and basically taking you through this journey.
All right, so pretty cool start. Hopefully that sets us up for a good year. We got a long, long way to go.
Playing out here on a Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon, you know, it's a little bit different than teeing up in a tournament. They're coming around pretty soon. We'll be playing them.
