· auto-generatedYou know that effortless power that the best players in the world always seem to have? This 10-minute mobility session can give you exactly the same when you next get to the course, so you can play better golf and improve how your body works. >> [music] >> I'm Michael Denson, PGA Professional, founder of DRVN, and head of performance.
And in this video, we're going to give you the sets and reps needed to get this done in less than 10 minutes, and then take it into your golf swing so you know exactly what to focus on to get the maximal benefit and get your golf swing feeling effortless and powerful when you next go and shoot a score. We are using a four-movement sequence, and how you do these and the order that you do them in is extremely important if you want to power your golf swing and feel really good when you get to the tee. The first movement is the rotational chop.
And all you need for these is a golf club. You can do it before you play at home, at the course, wherever you want to get it done. But here, we're going to a split stance in the lower body.
This helps you to engage the core and get more balanced and coordinate your movements. Take a shoulder-width grip on the club. It's going to work down parallel to the ground, and then up and around the system.
Again, how you do this is very important. Don't just move your arms and let the club go around the body. We really want to feel that movement around the spine and how you turn through the core if we're going to be successful.
And as we move, balance is your first priority. From there, we want to start adding more and more force, so you start to stabilize. So as we work through, it's low, it's up and around, and punch through to get to a parallel position on the opposing side.
And you can see there, we're getting lots of movement around the spine. We're building up your rotational pattern, and that is where you start with your stability. Work both sides of the body.
We're going to 10 reps, five and five, super simple to start things out. From there, you're going to jump up and go into your golf posture. Same grip on the club.
Feel the ground, set your posture, and then bring your arms out in front. From here, we rotate into your swing and we're going into that separation. Don't let the arms collapse.
Want to keep that width and work away from the body. Turning through, changing pressure between the feet, just like you do in the golf swing. The hips can turn, but the shoulders want to turn pretty much twice as far as the hips.
So you can see here, the hip loads, the shoulders continue, and you get into this great golf swing position whilst increasing width and maintaining your spine angle. So what does effortless power feel like? First of all, comment below, tell us what you like to feel in the swing, and what gets you hitting it well on the course.
For me, it's all about getting that left shoulder, that lead shoulder, behind the ball. Because if I do that, if I get into a full loaded backswing, I know on the way down, I can just let the body unwind, get into the back of the ball, and really just swing hard and trust my golf swing. That's what I like to feel like for effortless power.
And if you work on your mobility before you get to the course, you can get these feels in your golf swing as well. So let's go finish out that session. So we increased your coordination and your rotation.
Then we improved your range of motion. Now, it's about balance and control, because every good golf swing has exactly that. And for this, we use the rotational RDL, single-leg deadlift with a rotational bottom.
This is tricky, and that's why we use it. We want the foot to be working against the ground. Want to use a proper hinge, which is where the back of the leg, the hamstrings and the glutes are starting to work, and then we rotate to the outside of the body.
Extremely difficult if you're not focused on how your body loads through the foot and loads through the ground. If you can take that awareness into your golf swing, you're going to improve instantly. So we hinge down, chest over the knee, rotate to the outside, back, and through.
And then once you get comfortable, you can start to add a little bit fluidity, a little bit more movement, and trust yourself to move your body, control, and balance, and improve your golf swing mechanics. Again, 10 reps, five on each side. You're going to hit three sets of this total, so you're going to do each exercise 30 times, and that's going to get you freed up, feeling good, get the system going, and you're going to be ready to play some great golf.
And the last one, super important if you really want to get this moving, is the power posture rotation. So from here, we go back into our golf posture. We've got coordination.
We've got rotation, mobility, and balance. Now, we add in speed and sequencing. Club across the chest.
This is a great way to build that speed without thinking about the outcome. So we load up, really exaggerate your swing feels. We load up to the top of your swing, work down into the ground, and then rotate to the target.
Exaggerate everything. We want all the body moving as much as possible. Up, down, and through.
Feel the hips, feel the feet driving through the ground, and be super aggressive. And as always, we work both sides of the body. Very important.
It decreases the possibility of injury and increases your deceleration, so your swing can actually move faster cuz your body trusts what you're trying to do. So as we go to that left side, it's going to feel a little different, but we get tall, up, and rotate. The pattern will feel different, but this is how you build symmetry and sequencing into all of your movements in the swing.
Again, we're going three sets, 10 of each exercise, five each side of the body. This is going to get you ready and set to play powerful, effortless golf. In less than 10 minutes, we just helped you to play better golf and [music] also get your body in better shape.
