principle
Train the Person, Not the Swing
publicThe premise: golf performance improves fastest when training serves the person, not just the swing. Most golfers play once or twice a week. What determines their long-term success happens between rounds, in a life that contains work, sleep, stress, and everyone else's calendar.
A plan that ignores that life gets abandoned, no matter how good it is on paper. The aim is training that reinforces golf rather than competing with it — and that extends how long someone can play well, rather than peaking them for a single round.
Coach Application:
- Build around the schedule the golfer actually has, not the one that would be ideal.
- Ask what else is loading them — job, travel, sleep, other sport — before adding volume.
- Treat energy, mood, and recovery as programming inputs, not excuses.
- Measure success in seasons played well, not in sessions completed.
