Follow this Golf Fitness Session to Swing like a Tour Pro.
A two-part strength-then-power session anchored by the box squat to raise club head speed and power for longer drives off the tee.

· auto-generatedI use this exact workout set to increase my golf swing power, create my highest club head speed ever, and swing faster than almost any PGA Tour pros. We're going to help you to do the same. This is the best way to get your game in shape, ready to go, and ready to hit longer drives when you take to the course.
I'm Michael, head of performance and founder here at DRVN. We're back in the gym, and I want to let you know there are two clear ways that you can improve power in your golf swing. Number one is the technique.
You need to be able to deliver the club head optimally, sequence the swing, and create better impact. We're going to help you to do that, but the other way is to improve the power output of your body. You need to be able to be physically in a place where you can create a powerful golf swing.
The base of power is strength. We have a two-part workout series here, where we're going to go strength and then explosive power that is directly focused on your golf swing, so you can take it onto the course, hit it longer, and play a better golf. In terms of your strength set, we're going to work with the box squat.
This is excellent for golfers because it allows you to control the range of motion, control the change of direction, and that puts less stress through the spine, meaning that you can focus on the legs and more power through the ground. We're going five sets of five reps. And whenever you execute a squat or lift, form is the priority.
What we're looking for is a 3-second downward phase, that eccentric phase, 3 2 1, so we control, set, and then 1-second on the power phase, that concentric phase on the way up. This is how we really load the body, control your reps, maintain your spine angle, and build real strength in the gym. So, I'm using the box to control the movement.
My feet are engaging the ground. We're just at a weight here of around nine RPE, that's rate of perceived effort. It's the start of the season, so we want to maintain strength, keep that base there, and turn it into power, so when we get to the course, we are good to go.
Five sets, you're going to rest at least 2 minutes between each set, and then once we have those done, we turn it into real explosive power that works for your golf swing. So, it's one thing doing the work in the gym, but you have to be able to take that to the golf course. And here, we're looking at power out of the ground, and this is how I apply it to the swing.
So, number one, you've got to get that fully loaded backswing. We talk about that all the time. But, what we're really looking at here is the transition, because once we change from the top of the swing, the lower body's pushing to the target and up out of the ground.
And if you can maximize these forces, like we do with the box jump in the workout upcoming, you'll be able to power your swing. So, for me, you've really got to feel as though you're loaded into the ground, push out of that trail side, then push up with the lead side to maximize your power levers and hit longer drives. So, you can see there my footwork, I'm actually moving out of the ground as so many pros do, and we're going to help you do the same with the second part of the workout.
So, this is where the real magic happens if you want power in your golf swing. We hit our 5x5, the body's working hard, the muscles are there, our strength base is solid. Now, we work real power that benefits your golf swing.
Here, we're going to maintain the box squat at much lighter weight, around 70%. We then have loaded jumps and rotational box jumps. If you want to be that explosive golfer that can push out of ground and rotate like the best players in the world, you do this workout set.
So, we're going to drop down the sets. We're going to go three on the squat, three with the dumbbells, and then six on the rotational box jumps. Increase the rest, and just let it rip, guys.
All right, so three reps here. We're maintaining that tempo of controlling down and ex- accelerating on the way up, but now we need to really move fast. So, we control down, want to hit that point one as much as possible.
You can hear the balance bar bounce just a little bit. That's what we're looking for. Maximum vertical force.
Get as much through the glutes as we possibly can. And we're not resting between movements, we're resting at the top of the set. That is important as well.
Intensity, and we'll compound in the effect. Couple of dumbbells, these are around 25 lb, and here we're trying to compress into the ground, use your own body weight, and maximize that vertical acceleration. So, collapse into the ground, and then push with everything you have.
Landing is important as well. Make sure you can decelerate, and get that full extension and full vertical force. And now we drop it down into those rotational box jumps.
You can use the same height here. Obviously, form is very important, and make sure you're in the right surroundings. So, here, we're creating torque.
We're already firing, we're already powerful. Now, we want to rotate. So, use your body weight to work against the ground, turn, and rotate.
Move fast, react, and become a more athletic, explosive golfer. Working both sides of the body. This is the workout set that absolutely jacked up my club head speed.
It can do the same for you. Work at your level, progress over time, and make sure you're following a structured plan, because this takes real consistency if you want to be successful. In less than 10 minutes, we just helped you to play better golf and also get your body in better shape.
So, if you like improving your game and working on your body, make sure you hit like, hit subscribe, and follow DRVN so that you can golf strong.
