Broad Jump Athleticism Test
Testing force potential to assess and improve a golfer's physical preparedness to deliver an efficient golf swing.
The movement
Two phases, one connected system
Scrub the rep above to move between the two positions, or tap a phase to hold it.
We can't move without the forces available through the ground. Compressing your bodyweight against the floor to create the reactionary forces is exactly what we look for in the swing — a significant power lever.
Here we want all forces accelerating maximally as the athlete goes from compression against the ground into full extension and takes flight. Reconnecting with stability creates the deceleration that allows more acceleration.
Fundamentals
What the test is really measuring
Ground Reaction
One of the greatest expressions of ground-reaction force there is — compress against the floor, then express the stored energy through full extension.
Speed
With increased athleticism, golfers raise speed through force creation and apply it to the swing — improving our primary physical data point: clubhead speed.
Stability
The ability to reconnect to the ground with control creates effective deceleration, which in turn allows more acceleration — the system needs effective brakes.
Why it matters
Explosive, ground-up athleticism into the swing.
Add rotation to these loading patterns and the reaction forces and acceleration can be applied and expressed in the golf swing. With optimal sequencing the desired shot outcome becomes increasingly achievable.
