The movement

Two phases, one connected system

Scrub the rep above to move between the two positions, or tap a phase to hold it.

01
Set
Half-kneel, square

Half-kneel in a tall, square split stance with the core braced — the stable base for separation.

02
Rotate
Upper/lower split

Rotate the upper body over a fixed lower half — clean separation (the X-Factor) held with control.

Fundamentals

What the test is really measuring

Hip rotation

Both internal and external hip rotation are required for a healthy, powerful, consistent swing — active control sets the ceiling.

Asymmetry

Single-leg balance matters in an asymmetrical swing — connection to the ground is the foundation of everything above it.

Core activation

The core must be active and stable to transfer force from the ground through the legs into the upper body.

Separation

The X-Factor, literally — moving upper and lower body in different directions increases stretch and force potential.

Force application

Taking ground force, stretch, load and power potential and applying it into the club through impact.

Scoring

Score it 1–5

Mobility screens are scored on a 5-point quality scale — five tests combine into your mobility category, half of the Golf Fitness Handicap™.

5 / 5Clean upper/lower separation over a stable split stance, with active core control and matched range on both sides.

Why it matters

Separation — the X-Factor of the swing.

When a player can separate effectively they can also sequence and create a swing arc that brings consistency and the outcomes they want. Restriction here caps movement quality and power.
