The movement

Two phases, one connected system

Scrub the rep above to move between the two positions, or tap a phase to hold it.

01
Reach right
Wide stance, rotate

Wide stance, rotate through the thoracic spine and reach the hand toward the opposite foot.

02
Reach left
Mirror the range

Mirror the reach to the other side — checking matched rotational range left and right.

Fundamentals

What the test is really measuring

Thoracic rotation

Quality and range through the thoracic spine is a key driver of rotational potential — and reduces injury risk.

Body symmetry

Any left/right difference in rotational capacity. The swing is asymmetrical, so most golfers carry imbalances worth tracking.

Neutral hips

The wide stance tests lower-body stability — a neutral pelvis shows true separation and control.

Centre of gravity

Rotating around the spine within your base of support — a fundamental swing pattern tested objectively.

Power potential

Full thoracic range increases power through club arc, rotational coil and loading the torso against the trail leg.

Scoring

Score it 1–5

Mobility screens are scored on a 5-point quality scale — five tests combine into your mobility category, half of the Golf Fitness Handicap™.

5 / 5Full thoracic rotation with matched range left and right, hips held neutral and stable through the turn.

1

90 degree windmill range

2

135 degree windmill range

3

180 degree windmill range on one side

4

180 degree windmill range on both sides

5

181 degree or greater windmill range

Why it matters

Unrestricted rotation, a wider, fuller backswing.

Unrestricted rotation lets a golfer create a fully loaded, wide backswing — enhancing their ability to build optimal swing mechanics and desired impact factors.
