[Music] [Music] doing one of the workouts from the app today well today's workout wanted to give some insight into the other side of the training that I do a lot of which is essentially functional bodybuilding so obviously going way back bodybuilding tight sharp movements is kind of what golfers thought was the worst thing you could do restrict your range of motion restrict your rotation basically not good for golf so in some ways that's true short range of motion using machines you're not going to get that functional capacity but there's a lot of ways you can get it done so free weights dumbbells kettlebells barbell etc matched with full range of motion that's always something you got to look for so we're not looking bro rips we are looking to take the giant through the full range this has made a huge amount of progression in my game because I'm physically stronger more functional because of doing this matching it in with obviously the barbell training the power compound lifts etc so really just want to show you a full functional bodybuilding golf style workout today we've got leg day right now so starting out with the legs then we're going into the upper body we will also have traditional splits throughout the week as well more upper some lower but basically I want you to know this is a great way to get it done you can look good and play good at the same time relative to whatever you're going on so I just finished out my sets on the legs so it's time to time to get so for a little bit of an upper body pump [Music] part two done feeling the pump yeah I love the interval style I think it matches up so well with this kind of work add the cardio in it's functional but you're also getting it done with intensity better period of time so it matches your lifestyle better and it's more enjoyable man something I always try and put into every one of our workouts it's gotta be good fun to do because if it is you're probably gonna do it more then you see progress then you match your training lifestyle golf and then you're all good so as I said I've I've been training this for quite a while alongside all the other aspects it's got to be relative to you and obviously understanding your own body knowing where you're at in terms of recovery performance etc is going to be huge because if you just step in and start this you're going to feel some soreness that's adaptation you need that so you got to put these workouts in at the right time but if you're consistent if you apply like I said nutrition recovery mobility and then the technical side you can train like this you can get your body exactly where you want it and improve your game at the same time so things like the explosive elements with the med balls asymmetrical any typical bodybuilding style as I said I love training like this and I'm pretty good with it I can do this all year long I'll you up and down in terms of percentages but we can get it done so we got a quick little car finisher we all want to work on that car and then we're going to hit some balls want to get right into it we're going to talk about having a shop actually basically if you all think that bodybuilding makes every short backswing we're going to talk it through we're going to figure it out we'll help you out with your game as well [Music] so 15 seconds stop where'd you get it 21 ghd in the 14 purpose that's rough I got it gone ah says to be honest that's a pretty perfect session right now yeah got everything in got the leg work first got some power through the ground really nice functional pump upper body lots of conditioning then just shredded up the car to finish so straight into some swings let's go play golf [Applause] so even though you just trained important for you to do hit some shots after that's the transition I like to do obviously we can't get on play right now so I'm doing a lot of indoor practice but we talked about this with d shambo as well you can train for strength and mass and then transfer it to your swing okay it doesn't just mean that because I just did some bench press I can't move that's it functional range of motion is huge and I know something that a lot of golfers are concerned about ask about is the length of their backswing and again over time people thought that training bodybuilding etc was going to mean that we get real tight too tight around the chest we can't get that range however in my experience it's more global body organization that people struggle with okay we're talking from the feet all the way through the hips then around the spine and then we're talking upper body so in terms of training like this and still being able to create a functional swing you just have to understand the whole system so what I would see is that when people are struggling with the length of their backswing we get a lateral shift in the hips or we get very little lower body movement and if you think about how we're going to then turn without using the legs one we're not utilizing that power but two your body's having to turn an awful lot more over what is a stationary lower body and that means the range has to be massively more to do that all right so what you see with all the best players now all the strongest players you gotta let the lower body move you gotta let this trail hip rotate and the easiest way I get this is to move your lead knee towards your trail foot so as we turn then we can get all the way around by rotating that trail hip and this is something we've talked about a lot your spine can then turn around you organize the whole body then the upper body can get that full range we get the shoulder under the chin and you don't have a lot of sharp backswing anymore okay I don't have the longest backswing I used to I used to get over length but the thing is that can just be arm swing where we just let the arms bend all I ever look for is full engagement through the ground full rotation of the torso around that trail hip and from there you really kind of add some sauce to your shots guys all right so yeah you can body do it well do it functionally make sure you add some explosive sides in there then think about your swing understand the mechanics of it how you want the body to work and then man you can get jacked you can play great golf so it's a good deal guys all right try out this workout you got the full workout in the caption here hit the app it's free download and join a community get strong
