Why it matters for golf

Rowing trains conditioning through a leg drive and hip hinge, the same legs then trunk then arms sequence the swing uses. It also strengthens the upper back, which supports posture at address.

Coaching cues

  • Sequence legs, then body, then arms.
  • Reverse the order on the way back in.
  • Long strokes with a strong leg push.
  • Keep the back flat throughout.

Common faults

  • Pulling with the arms before the legs finish.
  • Rounding the back at the catch.
