Bodyweight

Plank

The front plank. Baseline trunk stiffness that keeps the spine stable while the hips and shoulders move.

core

Why it matters for golf

The core's job in golf is mostly to resist, not to move. Planks build that resisting stiffness so force from the lower body reaches the club instead of leaking through a soft midsection.

Coaching cues

  • Elbows under shoulders.
  • Squeeze the glutes and brace the abs.
  • One straight line from head to heels.
  • Breathe behind the brace.

Common faults

  • Hips sagging or piking.
  • Long sloppy holds instead of short honest ones.
