Barbell Front Squat

The Front Squat is an excellent choice for Golfers due to the positioning and postural benefits - it also doesn't load the spine as much as a Back Squat.

Why it matters for golf

The Front Squat is an excellent choice for Golfers due to the positioning and postural benefits - it also doesn't load the spine as much as a Back Squat.

When you retain a neutral spine and engage core with load, you are enhancing your ability to create power through your whole body whilst being in the best position to do so.

How to perform

  1. Take the bar out of the rack in a front rack position - Elbows high and the weight through your Shoulders into the Torso, not your Wrists.
  2. Set your feet into your Squat position, keep your Eyes ahead and take a deep breath into your Stomach to brace.
  3. Squat down into the ground, aiming for a full range of motion with the Hips parallel to the Knees or lower.
  4. Push into the ground and power out of the Squat to complete the rep.

Alternatives

The Front Squat is an excellent choice for Golfers and there are many variations we can look into. Other compound lifts with speciality bars or machines are a good choice if you have access. You may also prefer the Back Squat - all of our programs allow you to choose your preferred option.

You can also load with Kettlebells and Dumbbells to create a varied Squat challenge and the basic Squat itself is a great learning tool and warm up movement.
