Barbell Trap Jump

Loaded jump holding a trap bar. Converts deadlift strength into the vertical power golfers use against the ground.

Why it matters for golf

The trap jump is a loaded jump, strength turned into speed. Jumping with load trains the legs to put force into the ground fast, a quality that tracks closely with clubhead speed.

Coaching cues

  • Set up like a deadlift, flat back.
  • Pull, then jump as hard as you can.
  • Land soft with the hips back.
  • Reset fully between jumps.

Common faults

  • Load too heavy, so the jump becomes a fast pull.
  • Stiff, loud landings.
  • No reset between reps.
