Mobility

Deep Lunge

Long lunge hold that opens the hip flexors, feeding the hip extension and pelvic rotation a full turn requires.

Why it matters for golf

Tight hip flexors block hip extension and steal rotation from the pelvis. A deep lunge opens the front of the hip so the pelvis can turn and extend through impact. More hip range means less lower back compensation.

Coaching cues

  • Drop the hips low and forward, back leg long.
  • Stay tall through the chest.
  • Breathe slow. Sink a little deeper on each exhale.
  • Hold for several slow breaths per side.

Common faults

  • Arching the lower back instead of opening the hip.
  • Front knee collapsing inward.
  • Bracing against the stretch and holding the breath.
